Founding father B&B Italia passed away

27 January 2014

Last Saturday 25 January 2014 one of leading fathers of Italian interior design Piero Ambrogio Busnelli passed away. As the founder of B&B Italia he was an entrepreneurial visionary in the design industry. He introduced technology for the production of padded furnishings (cold polyurethane foam moulding) to the sector and partnered with renowned designers (Ettore Sottsass, Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, Vincent Van Duysen, etc.). He embraced R&D efforts and unique designs. His sons, Giorgio and Emanuele, who brought the company back under family ownership in 2011, will have to guide B&B Italia as 2nd generation owners through an era in which the word ‘design’ gets commoditized, distinctiveness is more difficult to achieve and skilled copycats emerge. It is clear that a made-to-measure IP strategy for design registrations will be part of a successful future.
