Several member states have indicated their desire to cooperate in the patent area and to create a competitive patent system for Europe. Different from traditional IP firms with inhouse translators, IP HILLS welcomes and supports the initiative to stimulate innovation and protection of intellectual property rights in Europe at a cost comparable to the US. Surprisingly however, Belgium that seems to take the lead in the European Patent debate has not yet ratified the London Protocol, the easiest way to get rid of its own translation requirements for European patents.
